biography
Attorney Richard H. Dollison has practiced law in the U.S. Virgin Islands for over thirty years and is widely recognized as one of the leading creditors’ rights attorneys in the jurisdiction. His career in law began as a paralegal with a litigation firm in New York, NY. After attending Fordham University School of Law, he was admitted to practice law in the Virgin Islands in 1994. Attorney Dollison became a partner in the St. Thomas-based Stryker law firm in 1999, where he continued to practice until 2013, at which time he established his own firm. In 2026, he merged his debt collection practice with McChain, Hamm & Associates, bringing a new area of legal specialization to the firm’s established practice areas.
Mr. Dollison has a history of representing banks, corporations, timeshare associations, and other creditors in cases involving debt collection and the enforcement of creditors’ rights. One of his cases established the judicial criteria for mortgage foreclosures in this jurisdiction. He pioneered the use of in rem mortgage foreclosures in the context of un-probated estates, as well as application of the non-judicial foreclosure statute. His bankruptcy practice has included the largest bankruptcy case filed in the U.S. Virgin Islands — a $1.8 billion matter — as well as the largest involuntary bankruptcy filing to date in this jurisdiction, at $600 million.
Beyond the law, Mr. Dollison spent eleven years on the Board of the Humane Society of St. Thomas and, prior to his legal career, worked as a filmmaker in New York.
